Jan 4, 2008 (newstodate): Freight growth continues to be sluggish, reflecting strong competition with sea shipping and uncertainty over the economic outlook for 2008, says IATA.
International freight demand growth slowed to 3.5 percent in November, down from 3.6 percent in October, and over the first 11 months of 2007 freight demand grew 3.9 percent, well below the 4.8 percent recorded over the same period in 2006.
Freight demand in the African market was down 18.3 percent during the last 18 months, while Latin Aemrica and the Middle East was up by 8.6 and 8.1 percent, respectively.
Asia/Pacific grew by 3.6 percent, while freight demand in North America was up 3.3 percent, above Europe's 2.9 percent.
