Jan 16, 2008 (newstodate): A development plan for Bulgaria's Plovdiv Airport will be drafted before the end of this year.
The Bulgarian ministry of transportation has decided to initiate work on the construction of a new passenger terminal and new taxiways.
A new ATC tower will be built by the middle of 2009, sources say, and a new cargo terminal is also to be comprised by the development plan.
The airport is poised for privatisation, and the launch of the process was expected by the end of 2007, but has obviously been delayed.
The airport's 2,500 m runway allows for traffic with Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and 757 as well as IL-86 and Airbus A310, while operations with AN-124 are performed with weight penalties.
