Sep 11, 2007 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is amidst a vigorous project to upgrade its airport infrastructure.
In 2006 repairs were completed to the Pavlodar airport runway, and in 2007 the reconstruction of Shymkent airport will be completed, as well as the reconstruction of Aktobe Airport.
Besides, state-financed modernisation of the regional airports in Aktau, Atyrau, Kyzylorda and Kostanay are planned for the near future.
When the planned works are completed, Kazakhstan's main airports will meet the requirements of ICAO.
In 2007 Astana and Almaty airports will be upgraded to ICAO CAT III, and the modernisation project for Kazakhstan's aeronavigation service system, launched in 2004, is already being implemented.
