Sep 17, 2007 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Almaty Airport plans to finish construction of its second runway by the end of November, 2007.
The new 4,500 m runway is located in parallel to the existing 4,400 m runway, but as the separation of the two runways is too limited, parallel operations will not be allowed.
The new runway will be certified to CAT I/IIIB, while the current runway is CAT I/II.
The airport also provides 20 parking stands for heavy aircraft, including four dedicated to freighters.
Among the airport's current freighter operators are Lufthansa Cargo with two, FedEx with 10, and UPS with five weekly flights.
Also operating into Almaty Airport is El Al with 11 weekly flights.
