Sep 4, 2007 (newstodate): The Latvian forwarding company Spedair is mulling plans for a freighter service.
The company is currently calculating on the economics of a triangular route from Brussels via Riga, Latvia, to Kiev, Ukraine, and back.
-We are looking at the operational costs of chartering a Boeing 737 or similar aircraft to perform two weekly rotations on the proposed route, primarily aiming at serving the pharmaceutical industries, says Janis Kaudze, Spedair director.
-We are still in the early planning and calculation stage, so there is no launch date yet. But we have information from our Kiev office that the market is definitely there, and besides the pharma industrial products we are also considering the significant imports from China that may also constitute an interesting business case, says Mr Kaudze.
Spedair has assigned airBaltic to assist in evaluating potential aircraft operators to provide the uplift capacity.
