Sep 14, 2007 (newstodate): Meinl Airport International has acquired a 100 percent stake in the Mukhino Airport in Ulan Ude, Russia.
After having signed the contracts in early August, the Russian antimonopoly commission has now given its approval to the transaction and the acquisition of the airport.
The airport, approved as an international airport, has a 3,300 m runway, rebuilt in 2006, and has the capacity to handle longhaul aircraft.
Its current operations primarily comprise commercial charter flights and some scheduled services.
In addition to investments in the modernisation of the existing airport, Meinl Airports International also envisages significant investments in the development of the commercial airport infrastructure.
This transaction is the first example in Russia of a sale of an airport to a western investor.
Meinl Airport International is a subsidiary of the Meinl Bank and registered on the Channel Islands.
