Sep 11, 2007 (newstodate): Latvian airline airBaltic is now able to train its Boeing 737 pilots at its base airport rather than having to send them abroad.
The new simulator in Riga is operated by the GECAT Flight Academy, and airBaltic has signed an agreement with the company on the use of the equipment for training purposes.
Initally the concept is limited to recurrent training of licensed pilots, but pending a revision of Latvia's labour laws airBaltic plans to introduce Boeing 737 ab-initio pilot training as well.
airBaltic now has 13 Boeing 737 aircraft in its fleet, and plans to add a further four in 2008.
