Aug 9, 2007 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport is bullish on prospects for continued growth in airfreight volumes.
-Our optimistic view is first of all based on the sustained success with Icelandair Cargo's operations for DSV from Jonkoping to Charlotte , USA, says Herman Larsson, Jonkoping Airport marketing manager.
-Icelandair has now resumed the weekly flight to Charlotte after two week's suspension during the low summer season, but actually four weeks of suspension were planned so we consider this early resumption of operations to be a strong signal.
-We are also optimistic about Icelandair Cargo's resumption of the earlier once-weekly flight, also for DSV, from Jonkoping to New York.
-The termination of Cargolux/Finnair Cargo's operation from Gothenburg to New York from June 30 has reduced the capacity in the market, leaving room, hopefully, for the New York freighter flights from Jonkoping to be resumed, says Mr Larsson.
During the first five months of this year, Jonkoping Airport handled a total of 951 tonnes of cargo, against 25 tonnes in 2006.
