Aug 1, 2007 (newstodate): 20,000 Danish pigs are looking forward to a major airlift operation from Denmark to Russia's Krasnodar and Tambov Regions.
The operation is slated to start from October and will continue into 2008 with weekly or even twice-weekly freighter flights, depending on the eventual choice of aircraft type.
-We are currently evaluating bids from five Russian carriers, and a decision will be made before the end of this month, says Frank Wennerberg, Dan-Invest managing director.
-We are also in the process of selecting the Danish airport to handle the live animals shipments, and Billund Airport that has rich experience from many similar operations will probably be entrusted with the task.
Dan-Invest, a Danish organisation investing in agroindustrial projects in regions including Russia and Eastern Europe, will export the pigs for breeding at its five joint ventures in Russia.
Denmark annually exports some 40,000 pigs to Russia.
