Aug 30, 2007 (newstodate): Kaunas Airport, Lithuania's second largest passenger airport, is pursuing a major modernisation and expansion program.
The current infrastructure development projects include construction of a new passenger terminal, aerodrome modernisations works, modernisation of the runway lighting system, and implementation of new aviation security measures.
Also the airport is now seeking potential investors to develop an aircraft maintenance hangar.
In 2004 Kaunas Airport had only two percent of Lithuania's air passenger volumes. In 2006 this was up to 14 percent, and in the first six months of 2007 it has increased further to 20 percent.
The airport's cargo volumes were also up 18.5 percent during this year's H1.
