Aug 20, 2007 (newstodate): Lithuanian logistics and freight forwarding Hoptrans is seeing growing business with its customers in the United Arab Emirates and China exporting goods to Russia.
Set up in 1993 with a focus on general cargo road transports, Hoptrans in 1998 added air cargo in response to customer demands.
The company has specialised in bringing air cargo shipments from UAE and China to Russia and is providing air charter flights to Kaunas Airport by Russian cargo charter airlines mainly using IL-76 freighters.
-The IL-76 can still be operated into Lithuania during a transitional period, but in the longer term we will be probably be looking at chartering Boeing 757 and AN-12 aircraft, says Arijandas Sliupas, Hoptrans development manager.
-Normally we have some five weekly IL-76 flights each lifting 50 tonnes of cargo, so there is a considerable annual volume, says Mr Sliupas.
-We consider the Russia-driven traffic our main asset, but we are about to launch a campaign to seek new partners and customers within a 1,000 kilometres range from Kaunas Airport, indicating a new drive towards the Polish and other markets to expand our scope of business, says Mr Sliupas.
