Aug 24, 2007 (newstodate): The Airbus A320 freighter conversion program is now moving from intentions to reality.
The Airbus Freighter Conversion GmbH, located in Dresden, Germany has started its operational business aiming to set up freighter conversion centres for the Airbus A320 family in Lukhovitsy near Moscow and the German site.
By now the partners are preparing the start of the conversion program at both locations.
-After the establishment of the company, the sales and marketing team is about to finalise negotiations with the first customer who will be announced soon, says Lars Becker, Airbus Freighter Conversion CEO.
The first converted freighter aircraft is expected to roll out in 2010 at EADS EFW's conversion centre, while the first converted aircraft from the Russian line is scheduled for 2011.
The parties anticipate about 400 Airbus Single Aisle aircraft to be converted from 2010 to 2025.
Initially, after the ramp up, an average of 30 A320 family aircraft is planned to be converted per year.
The converted A320 aircraft will have the capacity to carry 10 maindeck AAA containers and three plus four lower deck AKH containers, and a converted A321 aircraft will take 13 maindeck AAA containers and five plus five lower deck AKH containers.
