Aug 22, 2007 (newstodate): The process of tranfering ownerwhip and responsibility for Vagar Airport on the Faroe Islands is progressing.
A limited company is currently under establishment, and when the process is finalised after confirmation from the Faroese parliament, assets and ownership of the facilities of Vagar Airport will be transfered from the Danish state.
First on the agenda will be the long-awaited expansion of the runway to 1,600 m from today's 1,200 m, allowing for operations by larger aircraft without weight penalties.
Expectations are that the runway expansion work may start in 2008.
Also much needed is a modernisation of the passenger terminal that is planned to be expanded by 5,700 sq.m.
