Aug 27, 2007 (newstodate): Baku-based National Air Company Azerbaijan Airlines, AZAL has taken delivery of its first ATR 42-500.
The aircraft is the first to be delivered following the signature, last January, of a USD100 million-valued contract for the acquisition of six new ATR aircraft, including two ATR 42-500 and four ATR 72-500s.
Later this year the carrier will take delivery of its first ATR 72-500, and the airline will complete its fleet of ATR aircraft in 2008.
In February this year the carrier placed orders for three Boeing 787 Dreamliners and two Boeing 737-900, set to become the first operator in the Russian/CIS region to operate both the new Boeing 737-900 and the Dreamliner.
AZAL Azerbaijani Airlines already operates a fleet comprising six Boeing 757-200, three Airbus A319 and one A320 aircraft.
