Jun 28, 2007 (newstodate): After much publicity in Denmark about illegal long-haul road transportation of pigs destined for Russia, air transportation will now be considered.
Dan-Invest, a Danish organisation investing in agroindustrial projects in regions including Russia and Eastern Europe, thus plans to send some 20,000 pigs by air transportation in 2007 and in 2008, destined for breeding at its five joint ventures in Russia.
The planned operations may comprise some 24 freighter operations to to Russia's Krasnodar and Tambov Regions.
Denmark's Billund Airport is well poised to served as point of embarkation, having handled many live animal transports, including pigs shipments, over the years.
