Jun 19, 2007 (newstodate): Since June 7, Wizz Air has opened a new operational base in Romania.
The new base at Henri Coanda airport will be operated until the reopening of the Bucharest Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
The carrier has based one A320 aircraft, operated by a Romanian team of pilots and cabin crew already hired, at the base.
Wizz Air's network in Romania currently includes services from Tirgu Mures to Budapest, Rome Ciampino and Barcelona and from Bucharest to Barcelona, Budapest, Dortmund, London Luton and Rome Ciampino.
Starting October, Wizz Air will operate flights from Bucharest to Liverpool, Parma and Valencia, and from Tirgu Mures to London.
Wizz Air has signed purchase agreements with Airbus for delivery of up to 44 additional new A320. This summer the airline's fleet will consist of 13 airplanes, expanding to up to 53 aircraft in 2012.
