Jun 8, 2007 (newstodate): To handle its growing Asian traffic, Finnair Cargo needs more cargo terminal space at its Helsinki hub.
Plans for a new cargo terminal have long been underway but the company has refused to publicly detail the project further.
It is understood, however, that plans are to build a new terminal able to handle up to 150,000 tonnes in its initial stage, and the project is estimated to cost some 100 mio euro.
-We need a great deal more space for the needs of our growing Asian traffic. Our long-haul fleet is expanding strongly in the coming years, so we estimate cargo loads to double in less than ten years. In response to this, our goal is to increase cargo terminal capacity from the current level, says Antero Lahtinen, Finnair Cargo Oy Managing Director.
