Jun 7, 2007 (newstodate): Finnair's May-figures, a total of 7,951 tonnes, show a modest increase by one percent in total cargo volumes carried.
Behind the obvious stagnation are, however, significant structural changes in the pattern.
Finnair's Asian cargo continues to boom, while other segments are fast declining, including the European, North Atlantic, and scheduled charter loads.
Thus Asian cargo was up 25 percent, to 4,674 tonnes, while European cargo dropped 14.6 percent to 1,756 tonnes, North Atlantic cargo declined by 22.8 percent to 574 tonnes, and scheduled charter volumes we down 33.9 tonnes to 640 tonnes.
For the first five months in 2007, Finnair's toal cargo volumes were 37,293 tonnes, unchanged against last year.
Finnair is now introducing the A340 aircraft on its Asian routes, and the intense focus on Asian traffic will bode well for the company's cargo performance as well.
