Jun 14, 2007 (newstodate): In its latest global market forecast, Boeing sees the world's freighter fleet doubling over the next 20 years.
From 1,980 freighters in 2006, the world's operators will have 3,980 freighter in their fleets by 2026.
The trend will be towards large wide-body aircraft with a capacity above 75 tonnes, from 24 percent of the fleet in 2006, to 33 percent in 2026.
Standard-body aircraft willl, however, continue to dominate numerically, albeit down from 42 to 36 percent over the period.
Boeing expects the world to require delivery of 28,600 new aircraft over the period, and three percent of these will be freighters to cope with an annual cargo volumes increase by 6.1 percent.
