Jun 22, 2007 (newstodate): Today, 14 months after the devastating fires in Istanbul Airport, the Turkish air cargo industry still sees little effort to relieve the situation.
-As for cargo terminals, the situation is perhaps even worse today, and nothing has changed during the period, says a leading member of the Turkish forwarding industry at Istanbul.
-Neither the government, the ministry of transportation, nor Istanbul Ataturk Airport are taking the problems seriously.
-Air cargo exports from Istanbul Ataturk Airport have decreased due to lack of storage capacity. Three companies, Havas,Celebi, and Sistem operating bonded warehouses are still forced to use a single export warehouse with only one-tenth of the capacity we had before the big fire.
-Now we are expecting the new elections on July 22, and before then nothing will change. We will see later what the new government will do to remedy the situation, he says.
