May 9, 2007 (newstodate): Cherkass Airport, in Ukraine, is preparing to open up for international transit operations.
After comprehensive tests, the airport's runway has now been cleared to handle aircraft up to the size of Boeing and Airbus types.
The Cherkass region hopes that the increased capacity of the airport will support plans to turn Cherkass into a logistics center, as well as seeing the airport develop transit traffic on routes between the US and the Far Eastern markets.
Plans also include visions of an aircraft maintenance center at Cherkass Airport.
