May 16, 2007 (newstodate): Tajikistan's Tajik Air has suspended operations on its only route to Europe.
The carrier has provided flights on a route between Dushanbee and Munich using TU-154 aircraft, but passenger loads have decreased, forcing the airline to cut back to one monthly flight from the start of this year, and now this has also been suspended.
Turkish Airlines has opened a new route between Dushanbee and Istanbul that provides a range of transfer options to European destination, and this seems to have undermined the market for Tajik Air's European service.
In December, 2006, supported by EBRD, Tajik Air contracted Ernst & Young to provide consultancy on the carrier's operations with western-built aircraft.
