May 24, 2007 (newstodate): Earlier this month, the Russian state approved the merger of the five airlines KrasAir, Domodedovo Airlines, Omskavia, Samara and Sibaviatrans currently forming the alliance AiRUnion into a single airline, AiRUnion.
The merger will supposedly pave the way for financing a complete renewal of the five airlines' aircraft fleets.
But the state still holds 45 percent of stake in the merged airline, and the ownership issue remains most complex.
The state thus holds 51 percent of the shares in KrasAir, 50 percent in Domodedovo Airlines, and 46.5 percent in Samara airlines, while Omskavia and Sibaviatrans are privately owned carriers.
A lengthy process thus remains to asses the value of the individual airlines' shares.
