May 25, 2007 (newstodate): Ukraine is considering the construction of a new airport in Uzin, 80 km from Kiev.
A former air force base, Uzin has one 3,500 m runway, but plans are to construct an entirely new airport to serve both passenger and cargo traffic when the open sky policy is implemented from 2010.
Included in the concept is the construction of a logistics and air cargo complex to serve as a transfer point between cargo from the west and cargo from the Far East.
Financing of the project is expected to be provided by private and other investors.
