May 17, 2007 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo saw its cargo volumes down by 6.5 percent in April.
The carrier lifted a total of 3,217 tonnes of cargo, compared to 3,410 tonnes last year.
Imports to Iceland declined by 1.5 percent, exports by 11.3 percent, while transit cargo through Keflavik Airport grew by 6.5 percent.
During the first four months of this year the company carried a total of 14,212 tonnes, up 8.4 percent, y-o-y.
Imports grew by 7.7 percent, exports by 2.7 percent, and transit traffic by 29.3 percent.
-We expect the strength of the Icelandic Krona to have a negative effect on export of fresh seafood over the next several months, while the effect on imports will be positive, said Petur J. Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-We continue to be bullish on transit freight so overall we expect double-digit growth for the rest of the year, he says.
