May 10, 2007 (newstodate): BAA and the consortium led by HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH have formally announced that the HOCHTIEF consortium will acquire BAAs interest in Budapest Airport.
BAA acquired Budapest Airport in December, 2005, after a tender, but already in October, 2006, it announced its decision to sell its stake to a consortium led by the German airports group, HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH.
-Under BAAs ownership, Budapest Airport has made significant progress, transforming from a state enterprise into a private company and undertaking significant restructuring. Ferihegy is now more competitive, with lower charges, more routes and more airlines, with better customer service and better security, and the company has demonstrated a serious commitment to addressing community issues, such as noise, says Stewart Wingate, BAAs Budapest Airport CEO.
