May 7, 2007 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo does not cherish the idea of introducing a service fee on manual bookings.
-As a founding member of G-FX, BA World Cargo is committed to the success of e-bookings as a way of modernising the airfreight industry. GF-X usage has tripled over the last three years, both in terms of penetration and number of
bookings and currently around 12 percent of BA World Cargo's customer bookings are made electronically via the portal, says Chris Bosworth, General Manager, Commercial, BA World Cargo.
-The complex nature of cargo bookings, which take countless variables into considerations such as size, shape, weight, time and destination, means that the e-booking model adopted by the passenger side of the business can not be as easily replicated in the cargo industry. As a result, the customer demand for e-freight bookings is much lower than that witnessed in the passenger business.
-We are working closely with GF-X and our customers to increase the booking penetration and have various initiatives in place to achieve this, such as the GF-X Champions initiative, a forum for airlines and forwarders to develop the use of GF-X. We will continue to investigate new methods for attracting e-bookings, says Mr Bosworth.
