May 10, 2007 (newstodate): A major modernisation of Salekhard Airport on the Arctic Circle in Russia's Tyumen Oblast is soon to start.
May 15 is the official launch date for the project that includes resurfacing of the apron area, and new taxiways including new airfield lighting systems.

Served by Yamal Airlines and Gazpromavia, Salekhard Airport is also designated as an alternate airport for traffic on the trans-polar airlanes.
