Apr 2, 2007 (newstodate): Kiev Zhulyany Airport, Ukraine, is to be completely modernised.
Earlier plans for relocating the airport to a new site have now been abandoned for cost reasons, and instead a major reconstruction program will be detailed.
Due to its current state and conditions, some 70 percent of Ukraine's domestic traffic is handled at Borispol Airport, and Zhulyany Airport is keen to win back a share of this, in addition to attracting a part of the international traffic.
High on the agenda is a runway extension from 1,800 to 2,160 m, to allow the airport to handle aircraft up to the size of Boeing 737/Airbus A320 aircraft.
But to turn the airport into a modern airport, a major upgrade of the infrastructure is needed.
