Apr 27, 2007 (newstodate): The NATO/Volga-Dnepr cooperation SALIS came off to a good start in 2006.
Volga-Dnepr reports a total of 220 flight operations lifting 13,500 tonnes of cargo in 2006.
The contract between NATO member countries in the Strategic Airlift Interim Solution, SALIS, and Ruslan company was set up in February, 2006, and provides for the stationing of two AN-124 aircraft at Leipzig Halle Airport, while another four AN-124 aircraft will be allocated upon request as needed by the NATO and EU members of SALIS.
The contract will expectedly be prolonged until 2012 when NATO will receive a number of Airbus A400M aircraft to provide the alliance with strategic cargo capacity
