Apr 17, 2007 (newstodate): Russia's Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport saw its cargo volumes up during this year's Q1.
In total the airport generated 3.544 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 29.5 percent, y-o-y.
2,160 tonnes of this volume was Russian domestic shipments that grew by 8.2 percent. But even stronger growth was seen in international freight that increased by 94 percent to 1,336 tonnes.
Ekaterinburg Airport hopes for a decision by the central authorities to finance the buildling of a new 3,900 m runway that will increase the airport's operational capacity by 50 percent ahead of the Shanghai Organisation Summit in 2009, to be held in Ekaterinburg.
