Apr 20, 2007 (newstodate): Riga Airport, Latvia, is embarking on a major upgrading of its runway infrastructure.
After a tender, the airport has signed contracts with construction companies for a runway extension, and providers of airfield lighting systems.
After the project period, slated to be completed by October 2008, the runway will be 3,200 m against currently 2,550 m, taxiways will be extended accordingly, and with upgraded lighting systems, the runway infrastructure will meet ICAO category 2 standards.
