Apr 17, 2007 (newstodate): Besovetz Airport, in the Russian Petrozavodsk region, has regained its certifation, the lack of which earlier closed down operations.
The airport in the region bordering Finland's Karelia, is now planning for reopening of its former routes to Moscow and other Russian destinations, and flights to Finland will also be resumed.
After its re-certification, the region will now seek negotiations with the central aurhorities in Moscow to obtain financial help to develop the airport's infrastructure to allow it to handle international traffic.
The airport earlier also had a significant volume of cargo charter operations with Chinese shipments.
