Apr 12, 2007 (newstodate): Official cargo statistics from Estonia's Tallinn Airport may not reflect the full picture.
According the these statistics, the airport experienced a drop in cargo volumes by 11.1 percent in March, to 966 tonnes.
-Airport statistics do show a slight decrease, but as they do not include Road Feeder Services' volumes this is not the full picture, says Helena Roots, AirProxy Ltd, managing director Estonia and Latvia.
-However, Estonia's biggest exporter has cut back its production by 30 percent for three consecutive months so it would lead the airfreight market to decrease. This will put pressure not only on agents, but also on the airlines.
-I truly believe that the decrease will not last longer than three months, and the Estonian airfreight market will return to growth again. We need to consider the entire economic environment, and an expected economic growth up to 10 percent in 2007 should have a positive impact on airfreight as well, says Ms Roots.
