Apr 27, 2007 (newstodate): The Airbus A320 Family of aircraft has proved a success in the market way over original expectations.
The earliest expectations were to sell some 700 Airbus A320 aircraft, but already in 1999 the 1,000th aircraft was delivered.
In January 2007 the 3,000th A320 aircraft left the final assembly line, and orders now total more than 5,000 aircraft.
To cope with the increasing demand, Airbus has decided to increase monthly capacity from currently 32 to 34 this year, and to 36 by the end of 2008, further boosted to 40 by 2010.
Only four years ago, monthly production rate was 20 aircraft.
