Mar 30, 2007 (newstodate): The single largest airfreight market in the Nordic region, Sweden is expected to see an annual increase by five percent in its export airfreight volumes 2006-12, according to a market analysis prepared for Lufthansa Cargo.
With a total of 165,348 tonnes of export air cargo in 2006, the Swedish market will grow to some 173,500 tonnes this year, and to about 221,000 tonnes by the end of the period.
Comprising 38 percent of the total volumes out of Sweden, the north Atlantic market was the largest in 2006 with 62,932 tonnes, and this market will grow by 5.4 percent annually to reach some 82,000 of export airfreight in 2012.
Second largest with a 32 percent share, was export airfreight to the Asia/Pacific region, with 52,800 tonnes in 2006. This is expected to grow by 5.6 percent annually, to some 56,000 tonnes in 2007 and some 73,000 tonnes in 2012.
Third comes European airfreight, constituting 14 percent of the total volume. This will grow by only 3.9 percent, according to the study, from 23,256 tonnes in 2006 to some 29,000 tonnes in 2012.
