Mar 12, 2007 (newstodate): In 2006, Moscow's Vnukovo Airport saw a modest increase in cargo volumes by three percent.
In total the airport generated 22,257 tonnes of cargo in 2006, dominated by imports, 16,149 tonnes, unchanged against the preceding year.
The airport's export volumes, 6,108 tonnes, however grew by 11.4 percent, y-o-y.
Germanwings is the only western carrier serving Moscow Vnukovo with flights from Berlin and Cologne/Bonn since August 2006.
Despite the slow cargo growth, Vnukovo Airport is constructing three new cargo terminals.
One terminal, now under construction, will have a total floor space offer of 50,000 sq m and an annual cargo handling capacity of 150,000 tonnes.
A second new 6,000 sq m cargo terminal with direct airside access will be built on the site of the existing Cargo Terminal.
Complementing and completing the airport's cargo services, construction work on a third multi-modal cargo terminal with convenient rail and truck access routes was planned to start late in 2006.
