Mar 9, 2007 (newstodate): In 2006, Kaunas Karmelava Airport, Lithuania, saw strong performance in both passenger and cargo volumes.
The regional airport met its target for 2006: 250,000 passengers which was 300 percent up on the preceding year, and 10 times the volume in 2004.
The airport has thus increased its share of Lithuania's air travel market, to 13.8 percent.
The airport also handled 6,600 tonnes of air cargo in 2006.
To cope with the traffic and volumes increases, the airport is now planning for an airport development project that also includes the building of a new passenger terminal.
