Mar 13, 2007 (newstodate): Italy's belief in the Russian regional jet SuperJet 100, formerly RRJ, seems to strong that an agreement will be signed between the two countries for production of up to 1,800 aircraft over a 20-year period.
The official announcement is awaited at tomorrow's summit between the Russian president and the Italian prime minister.
Italy's Alenia will reportedly be responsible for 25-20 percent of the components and systems, with Sukhoi and its sub-suppliers undertaking the remainder and the final assembly of the regional jet that wil supposedly compete on low price compared to Western alternatives.
Following the aircraft's first flight in 2007, six aircraft are expected to leave the assembly line this year, with another 60 in 2008.
