Mar 19, 2007 (newstodate): Gothenburg Landvetter Airport, Sweden, is keen to regain its share in the coveted Swedish horse transport business.
-Our Border Inspection Post, BIP, is today housed in two separate buildings, but we have just launched a project to build a new facility at a site that will provide potentials for a more smooth and efficient handling, says Lena Stavmo, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport Route & Aviation Development Manager.
-Handling of horses has a high priority at our airport that is situated in one of Sweden's most "horse-dedicated" regions, and nearby is a horse racing ground that generates international airlifts of some 150-200 racing horses every year, says Ms Stavmo.
Earlier this month, Sweden's Norrkoping Airport was cleared by EU inspections to resume its handling of animals, primarily imports of Icelandic horses by Icelandair Cargo.
