Mar 14, 2007 (newstodate): Estonia's Tartu Airport is plannning for a major upgrade of the airport's infrastructure to allow for more traffic.
-We are seeking EU funds to finance an extension by 420 m of our runway, from today's 1,380 to 1,800 m, says Rein Mark, Tartu Airport manager.
-The runway extension will allow us to operate larger, mid-size aircraft to serve routes into and out of Tartu that has a large aeronautical institute generating much air traffic that now has to go via Tallinn or Riga.
-Also we would like to implement a new ILS system to support the air traffic, and a new radar is also in the pipeline, says Mr Mark.
