Mar 27, 2007 (newstodate): The ongoing Russian efforts to survey airports for compliance to operational safety standards creates problems for some isolated communities.
On November 6, 2006, the airport of Anderma, in the Archangelsk region, was closed down by the authorities, and since then all flight operations have required special permission.
With 350 km to the nearest railway station, the community relies heavily on flights to bring in people and supplies, and Aeroflot-Nord has therefore continued to provide the area, operating six flights during the last four months, plus two flights in March.
