Mar 5, 2007 (newstodate): Norrkoping Airport, since 2006 owned by the communal authority after ownership by LFV, considers March 6 a crucial day for its cargo future.
-On the agenda of the EU commission is the question of approving the veterinary facilities at the airport for a Border Inspection Post certification, says Mari Torstensson, Norrkoping Airport manager.
-Until 2005 we had regular traffic by Icelandair carrying Icelandic horses into Sweden via our airport. But this was stopped as we did not qualify as a BIP.
-If we get the approval by the Commission, we expect the traffic to start up soon again, and this means a monthly freighter flight, excluding the two summer months, says Ms Torstenson.
-Apart from the significance of this traffic in itself, we also consider this as an important boost to our efforts to develop air cargo at Norrkoping. We see much freighter traffic at regional Swedish airport, and we would certainly go for a share of this market.
