Feb 26, 2007 (newstodate): Construction of a third runway at Ekaterinburg's Koltsovo Airport, in Russia's Sverdlovsk region, is now high on the agenda.
The need for a third runway is driven by the Shanghai Organisation Summit in 2009, to be held in Ekaterinburg.
Without the new runway, the airport will not be able to accomodate the volume and variety of aircraft types carrying the delegations.
The new runway will be 3,900 m, increasing the airport's operational capacity by 50 percent.
The final decision, including finalisation of the investment issues, is expected before this summer.
