Feb 1, 2007 (newstodate): In the long-term perspective, Russia and the new East and Central European EU member states are potent markets - but still very difficult to handle at this stage.
-So far we have sold four or five de-icing vehicles, the Typhoon, to Russian airports, and one to Romania, but we do not expect to see a major increase in sales in the short term, says Ulf Bengtsson, Safeaero Head of marketing & sales.
-We have now entrusted all marketing, sales and services in the Russian market to a local agent as we recognise the hugely complicated processes related to any sales, imports and customs issues. Also we have just appointed an agent in the Polish market to seek advances there.
-Considering the limited financial means often available to customers in these markets, our Typhoon de-icing vehicle, priced around six million Swedish Kroner and customised to the individual customer, is clearly considered rather expensive, compared to local less-sophisticated alternatives.
-So even while markets in East and Central Europe and Russia/CIS are attractive in the long run, today's potentials are rather limited. Our growth is first of all obtained in the mature markets of Western Europe, says Mr Bengtsson.
Safeaero is located at Trelleborg, Sweden, and ranks among Europe's major manufacturers of de-icing equipment and vehicles.
