Feb 19, 2007 (newstodate): Budapest Ferihegy Airport saw its cargo business booming in 2006.
The airport's cargo volumes were up by no less than 20.8 percent to a total of 88,188 tonnes, doubling the growth figures over the past ten years.
Hungary's main EU trade partners generated 35.3 percent of all cargo traffic, and Germany, the airport's single largest cargo destination, accounted for 11.2 percent of all cargo volumes.
-More than half of Hungary's air cargo still arrives into Hungary by road from Vienna Airport, which adds unnecessary cost and time to Hungary's businesses. So the growth of air cargo at Ferihegy will enable Hungarian businesses to compete much more effectively in world markets, supporting tens of thousands of jobs throughout Hungary, says Stewart Wingate, CEO BA.
