Dec 21, 2007 (newstodate): The second meeting of the Joint Committee established under the European Common Aviation Area, ECAA, Agreement found significant progress in the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Community internal air transport market.
The ECAA Agreement gradually opens up the air transport market and provides that the Western Balkans partners should, through transitional phases, fully implement Community aviation legislation in areas such as aviation safety, security, air traffic management, environmental standards and the protection of air passengers' rights.
Air traffic between the EU and the Western Balkans has has been growing by almost 150 percent since 2001.
Forecasts for aircraft movements in the region are predicted to continue to increase by more than 6 percent annually in the coming years.
