Dec 11, 2007 (newstodate): Russia's aviation authority Rosaviatsiya has banned operations with specific aircraft by 13 Russian airlines into EU airspace.
The ban follows on a safety inspection by Russian and EU aviation authorities during June-October, 2007.
The inspection revealed a series of safety deficiencies on aircraft from the 13 airlines, including UTAir, Atlant-Soyuz, Kuban Airlines, S7 Airlines, KrasAir, and Orenburg Air Lines.
The ban mostly concerns operations with ageing Tupoloev and Ilyushin aircraft, but also Boeing aircraft are on the list.
The Russian ban is a proactive measure to prevent the airlines from being included on EU's black list, and airlines have until February 20, 2008, to prove adequate remedial action.
