Dec 12, 2007 (newstodate): The trans-Atlantic cargo project FastShip is still alive, while little has been heard since the expiry of the tender earlier this year.
-We achieved core freight commitments for about one-third of our capacity, which exceeded our goal. Our attention is now focused on the other key elements needed to finalise the financing, says Kate Chambers, FastShip spokeswoman.
-We are just working our way through the turmoil in the financial markets, just like everyone else.
The FastShip capacity tender was opened on January 31, 2007, throwing up to 1.3 million tonnes capacity unto the market for trans-Atlantic freight transport by three JetShips to ply the sea from the end of 2009 in 3.5 days between projected new port facilities to be built at Philadelphia and Cherbourg.
