Nov 16, 2007 (newstodate): SAS Cargo is keen about participating in IATA's paper-free cargo project.
Sweden has been selected as a party to the first pilot projects comprising freighter traffic between Sweden and Hong Kong, which includes SAS Cargo's flights from Gothenburg and Cathay Pacific Cargo's flights from Stockholm Arlanda.
-The success of the project depends on active involvement from many parties within, but also outside the industry, primarily national authorities, says Steen Otterstrom, SAS Cargo's main representative in the project.
-For instance, a good part of the advantages of E-freight is lost if a country's customs authorities are not capable of receiving electronic messages.
-Actually, the ability to handle and receive information electronically varies from country to country. We do hope, however, that the situation will be remedied within the next five years, allowing e-freight to become a universal standard.
